Frequently asked questions

1 . How white will my teeth go at the end of the treatment?

This depends on the mineral content contained within your teeth and results can therefore vary between individuals. Mineral content depletes with age and mineral content can also be affected by Tetracycline (antibiotics which you may have taken as a child). Generally speaking, we will get your teeth to as white as they were when you were a teenager (sometimes whiter). Some people prefer not to have this level of whitening, and should request prior to a procedure not to have their teeth whitened too dramatically. The Beyond system will get your teeth to as white as they will naturally go.

2 . How soon will I see results?

Immediately! There is no waiting around for 2 or 3 weeks to see the results. As soon as you are finished with your laser teeth whitening treatment, you will look in the mirror (usually with great surprise). If we do not whiten your teeth, you will not be charged for the procedure.

3 . Is the treatment painful?

It is normal to feel very slight sensitivity after Laser Teeth Whitening and many experience none whatsoever. This is because the gel we use helps to open up thousands of tiny 'tunnels' in your enamel, which in turn allows the dentine to be penetrated (the dentine is the layer of the tooth largely responsible for its colouration).

. After teeth whitening treatment, it takes about 24 hours for these tunnels to fully close and during this time people can experience some sensitivity when breathing in sharply, or whilst eating very hot or very cold foods. However, most people do not experience any sensitivity after the first hour and some experience none whatsoever. A very small percentage of people feel severe sensitivity which can be uncomfortable but will pass without any long term side effects within 24 hours.

4 . Are the results permanent?

Results can last up to three or four years and sometimes longer. However, as soon as you leave the clinic it is important to remember that your teeth begin the staining process all over again. After 6 months, you will therefore notice your teeth are not as white as when you first left the clinic. We therefore encourage existing customers to return once a year for a further whitening session. Returning customers are offered a small discount for subsequent treatments.

5 . Is the process harmful to teeth?

No! The effect on teeth is no different to the effect from commonly ingested foods or regular dental procedures.

6 . Will the gel whiten crowns, veneers or false teeth?

The teeth whitening process will only remove intrinsic staining from natural teeth. However, the gel will help remove all extrinsic staining from teeth, including false teeth. This means that your false teeth will be 'cleaned' back to their original colour.

If you are planning to have a crown, bridge, filling or false tooth, it is recommended that you first have your teeth whitened. Your Dental Therapist or Dental Nurse will then be able to match the shade of the false tooth to your new colour.

7 . Do many people whiten their teeth?

Yes, more than you would imagine. A bright, sparkling smile can make a very big difference to a person's confidence and self esteem. Studies have shown that people with whiter teeth smile more readily and tend to make more eye contact whilst engaged in conversation. Typically, people will not immediately note that your teeth have been whitened, but they will think to themselves that you are looking very healthy, without putting their finger on why this is the case!

8 . How long does the treatment take?

Treatment takes one hour including same day consultation.
